          a) Characterize the young (outer description, fashion, inner description, typical qualities, interests)

          - Characterize a typical teenager.

          - Why is puberty a difficult period of life? What is adolescence/puberty? What physical change do teenagers normally go through?

          - Describe what the ideal childhood for you would be like.

          - What are the advantages/disadvantages of being young? What advantages do you see in being an adult? Explain.

          - How do you spend your leisure time? What is your favourite activity?

          - Is there anything you would like to change in your life? Give the pros and cons of being young today. Would you prefer to be a teenager 10, 20 or even 50 years ago?

          - What are the biggest dangers facing today’s youth? What should the age limit be for buying alcohol? Are drugs a part of a night’s entertainment in SK?

           

          b) The place of the young in the society (rights and duties, study opportunities, jobs, young families)

          - What opportunities do young people have at present, e. g. education, job, etc?

          - What values are becoming more and more important for many young people? Why?

          - Why do people study at famous institutions? (well-paid jobs, career, high standard of living, materialistic approach to life)

          - Would you like to study somewhere abroad? Explain. (reputation, employment, culture, experience, language, independence)

          - What do you think of teenage pregnancy?

           

          c) The relationships among peer and relations between generations (conflicts – the reasons, demonstration and effects)

          - What roles do young people usually rebel against? (authorities, parents, teachers, society, law/norms, negative effects – vandalism, hooliganism, alcohol/drugs, sprayers, loss of manners, gambling)

          - What is the relationship between young people and adults (parents, teachers,..) at that time?

          - What is your relationship to your parents? How do you get on with them? Are they strict or tolerant?

          - What do you know about your parents´ or grandparents´ childhood? How was it different from yours?

          - What is a generation gap? How cold it be solved? What steps may parents take to bring youngsters up? (constant control, physical punishment, motivation, praising…)

          - What qualities are the most important in the relationship between the parents and their teenage children? (mutual trust, love, respect, tolerance)

          - Do you have conflicts with your parents? How do you show your disagreement with your parents?

          - If you were in the position of your parents what would you change in the relation to your children? What would you never allow your children to do? Why?

           

          Writing suggestions:

          E-mail (150 - 180 words)

          While on holiday recently, you met a wonderful person who you hope to marry one day. Write an e-mail to a friend describing the person you met. Be sure to mention the following: 1) how you met, 2) appearance, 3) personality.

          Essay (180 - 200 words)

          Write an essay stating problems that young people face at present and try to suggest a possible solution to the problem you consider to be the most serious one. Do not forget about the layout and paragraphs.
